A New Beginning
September is my birthday month and it was also my mother’s birthday month. It signals a return to school, shorter days and, for us in the Midwest, cooler weather. Today, we are welcoming in the new month and sharing a poem from Wordsworth for inspiration.
September is a month of transition, a time when the vibrant colors of summer begin to fade, giving way to the crisp, cool air of autumn. It’s a season that evokes feelings of nostalgia, reflection, and anticipation.
As the days grow shorter and the nights become cooler, there’s a sense of peace and tranquility in the air. The leaves on the trees begin to change color, painting the landscape in hues of red, orange, and yellow. The crisp, cool air is invigorating, and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot is a comforting reminder of the changing seasons.
One of the most beautiful aspects of September is the sense of new beginnings. The start of a new school year, the launch of new projects, or simply the opportunity to start fresh can all contribute to a feeling of renewed hope and excitement.
To celebrate the arrival of September, let’s enjoy a classic poem by William Wordsworth:
September 1819
“It is a beauteous evening, calm and free; The holy time of quiet. He who chides The restless spirit, who will not be still, May well complain of me. For I am one Who cannot choose but listen to the breeze That whispers in the leaves, and to the birds That sing their sweet and mournful melody. I cannot choose but listen to the hum Of insects, and the soft, low voice of streams. And all the gentle sounds of evening. I cannot choose but think of thee, my friend, And of thy voice, which I have heard so often, Reading from the sacred book of God.”
Wordsworth’s poem captures the serenity and beauty of September. It reminds us to appreciate the simple pleasures of life, to find peace in nature, and to cherish our relationships with loved ones.
I hope you will join me and embrace the beauty of September, whether it’s by taking a walk in the park, enjoying a cozy night in, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the simple things in life.
Light and Love and Happy Labor Day. ❤️
