Practices for Connecting with Your Inner Voice
As students, parents, and professionals, our days are filled with noise and distractions. It can be challenging to find moments of quiet to connect with our inner voice. However, even small, daily practices can significantly enhance our ability to tune in and hear the wisdom within. Here are a few simple techniques to incorporate into your routine:
Morning Mindfulness
- Before You Reach for Your Phone, Check In: Some of us are jolted out of sleep by an alarm, others wake up more naturally. No matter which one you are, take a moment to check in with yourself to see how your feeling – before you reach for your phone. Is your body tired? Are you anxious about what the day will include? Listen to what your body and mind want to tell you without judgment.
- Start your day with gratitude: Begin each morning by expressing gratitude for the day ahead. This can help shift your focus to the positive and create a receptive mindset. Keeping a gratitude journal near your bed, and build the habit of listing at least three things you’re grateful for each morning and evening.
- Practice deep breathing: Take a few deep breaths to calm your mind and body. This helps you to connect with your inner self.
- Check in with your Higher Self: After you’ve checked in with yourself, expressed gratitude and taken some deep breaths, clear your mind and ask the question, what does my higher self want me to know for today? Then listen and see what comes to you. Initially, you may not get an answer, but if you make this a daily habit, you will be surprised at how starting your day in conversation with your higher self will build create and deepen your connection to your inner voice and spirit.
Throughout the Day
- Observe your thoughts: Throughout the day, take a few moments to observe your thoughts without judgment. Notice if they are positive, negative, or neutral. This practice can help you become more aware of your thought patterns and identify any recurring negative thoughts.
- Journaling: Set aside short 5 minute breaks throughout the day; mid-morning, lunch time, mid afternoon, etc., and jot down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This is also another good time to ask your higher self a question and write down what ever comes to you or craft a statement of gratitude in the moment. You can reference back to these notes later for reflection and if you have time, explore them further in a journal. Journaling can be a powerful tool for self-reflection and understanding your inner voice.
- Spend time in nature: Even a short walk in nature can help you connect with your inner self. If time is of the essence, pause between your home and your car, bus or train and simply feel the air as it fills your lungs, the patterns in the sky, is it clear, cloudy, filled with stars or raindrops? Pay attention to your surroundings and the sensations in your body.
- Carry a pocket crystal: As you get ready to leave the house, choose a crystal that resonates with you and carry it with you throughout the day. Whenever you put your hand in your pocket and feel the crystal take a moment to check in with how the crystal feels, does it still resonate? This can help you reconnect with your inner voice. See our earlier post What’s in Your Pocket for more information on pocket #crystals.
Evening Reflection
- Review your day: Before going to bed, take a few minutes to review your day and any of the notes you made earlier. Reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Recall any moments where you felt like your inner voice, intuition or higher self were guiding or communicating to you. Don’t second guess yourself here – if it felt like your intuition, believe it. The more you do this, the more you will realize that there are less coincidences in your life and more synchronicities.
- Practice gratitude again: End your day by expressing gratitude for the experiences and lessons you’ve learned. This can help you feel more connected to your inner wisdom and create a positive mindset for the next day.
Remember, the key to connecting with your inner voice is consistency. By incorporating these simple practices into your daily routine, you can cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness and connection to your inner guidance.
