A Technique by Abraham Hicks
This past weekend, I attended an amazing event; a dance retreat held at a camp in northern Michigan featuring world-renown teachers. You can read a bit about it in yesterday’s post, Dancing through Life.
One of the first things that happened at my retreat was my dance friend gifted me a set of The Law of Attraction oracle cards. Now, I do need to get to know these cards better because I’ve only shuffled and pulled a card from them twice — but in my first two pulls, I got the same card. As a reader, I know to pay attention when this happens. The card I pulled was Segment Intending.

As I mentioned, I’m not familiar with this deck, and until today, I wasn’t familiar with the concept of Segment Intending, but I am now and I thought I would share what I’ve learned. If this speaks to you, please leave a message in the comments, I’d love to hear from you.
Segment Intending is a concept popularized by Esther Hicks, a spiritual teacher and author who channels the teachings of a group of non-physical entities known as “Abraham.” It’s a technique designed to help individuals align their thoughts, emotions, and actions with their desires, thereby manifesting their desired outcomes.
The basic idea is:
- Divide your day into segments: Think of your day as a series of smaller segments or scenes. These could be activities like driving to work, having a meeting, or spending time with family.
- Set intentions for each segment: As you transition from one segment to another, set a clear intention for the upcoming segment. This intention should be positive, uplifting, and aligned with your overall goals.
- Focus on feeling good: The key to segment intending is to focus on feeling good emotions. The more positive emotions you can generate, the more likely you are to attract positive experiences.
Example:
- Segment: Driving to work.
- Intention: “I am feeling relaxed and at ease. I am safe and protected.”
By focusing on these positive emotions, you’re more likely to experience a calm and pleasant drive.
Here are some ways to practice Segment Intending:
- Set intentions: Write down intentions as they come up, or set intentions in the morning.
- Visualize success: Visualize the success of the intentions.
- Use positive affirmations: Use positive affirmations.
- Reflect: Spend time in the evening reflecting on the intentions for the day.
- Incorporate into daily practices: Incorporate the process into daily spiritual practices.
- Use as a vision board: Use the process as a digital vision board for manifesting goals.
Key points to remember:
- Be specific: The more specific your intentions, the better.
- Focus on feeling good: Positive emotions are essential for manifestation.
- Be patient: Manifestation takes time. Trust the process.
Why does it work?
Abraham Hicks describes Segment Intending as being aware of yourself and what’s coming next. According to Abraham Hicks, our thoughts and emotions create a vibrational frequency that manifests corresponding experiences. By setting positive intentions and focusing on feeling good, we align ourselves with the vibrational frequency of our desires, making them more likely to manifest in our lives.
I know that this is a very simplified outline of the concept and I am planning on taking a deeper dive as time permits, but I’m excited to learn more and put this into action! From what little I know, I see that Segment Intending is a powerful tool that can help me, and you, create a more positive and fulfilling life. By getting ahead of your day and consciously setting intentions and focusing on feeling good, as defined within the parameters of this technique, you can create a more positive and fulfilling life.
Light and Love❤
