My Feathered Messenger
My last two posts have been focused on animal spirits, or animal guides, making appearances in your life. As with many of my posts, there’s a personal inspiration that prompts me to look into a subject and post. The line of thinking for me is that if it’s interesting to me, it might just be interesting to you. 🙂

Over the past several weeks, I’ve noticed several blue jays making frequent appearances in your life. I have also found their vibrant feathers scattered in my yard, while out on walks, and even on an out-of-state vacation. That last sighting made me consider that this was more than just a coincidence. I wrote Animal Guides and Animal Guides vs. Animal Totems because of those sightings. Today’s post is in response to yet one more visit from a Blue Jay. This beautiful bird demanded my attention by first calling out several times to get my attention, then jumping up on a tree branch right in front of my bay window, as I was standing there looking for the source of the noise.
In many metaphysical traditions, the blue jay is considered a powerful animal guide, carrying significant symbolic meaning. This post is all about what this pretty bird may have to say.
Symbolism of the Blue Jay
- Communication and Clarity: Blue jays are known for their loud, distinctive calls. This symbolizes their ability to bring clarity and communication into your life. They may be encouraging you to express yourself more openly or to pay attention to the messages you’re receiving.
- Transformation and Change: The blue jay’s bright blue plumage often represents transformation and change. It may be a sign that significant shifts are on the horizon. Embrace these changes with courage and trust in the universe.
- Intelligence and Intuition: Blue jays are considered highly intelligent birds. As an animal guide, they may be reminding you to trust your intuition and use your intellect to navigate life’s challenges.
- Protection and Watchfulness: In some cultures, blue jays are believed to be protective spirits. Their presence may indicate that you’re being watched over and guided.
What to Do When You See a Blue Jay
- Pay Attention: When you see a blue jay, take a moment to notice your thoughts and feelings. What is the bird doing? Where is it located? These details may hold clues to the specific message it’s bringing.
- Meditate: If you’re feeling connected to the blue jay, try meditating on its energy. Visualize yourself surrounded by its vibrant blue feathers and allow its wisdom to fill your mind and body.
- Trust Your Intuition: The blue jay is often associated with intuition. If you’re unsure about the meaning of its appearance, trust your gut feeling. Your intuition will guide you toward the answers you seek.
