Waiting on the Snow

A Poem about the Anticipated Midwest Storm

It’s a wintry January day in the Midwest and, as is likely to happen this time of year, we are watching the weather on the TV, our computers & our phones. It’s winter storm season. Kansas City was covered in ice last night and today the southern part of Illinois is blanketed in white. The storm seemed to hit south, but not to worry, there’s another one right behind it.

Evergreen Trees in a snowy landscape

I am not commuting anywhere, so the drop in temperature and anticipated snow storm doesn’t bother me. Truthfully, I think I am rather looking forward to getting a good snow. Today’s post is a poem all about the anticipation of a snowstorm.

Waiting on the Snow
The air is crisp, a diamond sheen,
A promise whispered, soft and keen.
The wind, a playful, mischievous sprite,
Dancers twirling, with all their might.

The clouds assemble, a fluffy white,
A grand procession, a wondrous sight.
Each flake a tiny, a shimmering star,
Descending gently, from afar.

Those like me dream, with joyful glee,
A winter wonderland, for all to see.
We wait and watch, with eyes so bright,
Anticipating the pure delight.

The fire crackles, a warm embrace,
Books stacked high, in my cozy space.
The snow falls softly, a gentle sigh,
A blanket white, beneath the sky.

A time for magic, a time to dream,
Where winter's beauty, a vibrant gleam.
A chance to reconnect, with nature's grace,
And find contentment, in this peaceful space.

I hope this poem resonates with you as much as it does with me. Whether you’re eagerly awaiting the snow or simply enjoying the cozy atmosphere of a winter’s day, may you find peace and joy in the present moment.

A lovely “cosy” poem. We here in Northern Ireland will have some snow on the hills but it will be the ice that causes most disruption. I’m having to drive this morning, about 20 miles, but hopefully by then the sun will have done its work.

We only had a dusting overnight, but more to come. Safe travels today.
